Sonora, land of contrasts
These words were pronounced by Gustavo Romero Carpena (+) in the act inauguration of the first Sonoran landscape exhibition, in October 1982 at the Casa de la Cultura de Sonora:
“Memo Moreno began as a photographer in 1955, nurturing himself from advice from his father, Guillermo Moreno Ruiz, a meticulous passionate about photography, receiving a large baggage of knowledge of the trade.
Photographically, he has tried everything, because he knew he couldn't find the beginning of the endless road that is photography, until he felt shaken by the life force of the landscape, where he came to find his calling of artist.
Among other things, the landscape imposes on the photographer, but, with no other direction than the whim, began a long wandering through all corners of the state, to bring us unprecedented landscapes of great vitality.
Here we present some of them, as a small sample of this Sonoran photographer and his deep love and devotion to our landscape.”
Gustavo was a great connoisseur of photography and creativity. Include your words in this work is a modest acknowledgment of his memory.
“This exhibition is designed to publicize part of Sonora, its contrasts and production, poor would be my attempt if I tried to show all the I've been in a few pictures." - Memo Moreno.
